Ramsay Health Care will look after patients with PIP
implants
13 January 2012
Ramsay Health Care is committed to providing high quality
patient care that meets the expectations of our patients.
The MHRA and the Department of Health’s Expert Advisory Group
have found that there is no evidence of toxicity in the implants
and that there is not enough evidence to recommend routine removal
of PIP implants. However, Ramsay believes that patients with these
implants should be given a choice about their treatment and not
left to worry unnecessarily.
Therefore, Ramsay has decided that all Ramsay patients (those
patients who paid Ramsay for their treatment) will be offered a
free scan and a consultation with a surgeon. After discussion with
the surgeon, if the patient wishes to have their PIP implants
removed and replaced this will be done by Ramsay at no cost to the
patient.
Ramsay will be writing to all affected patients in the coming
week but if our patients have any concerns or questions in the
meantime or want to find out if they have PIP implants then they
should contact the Ramsay hospital where they were treated.
If you are not a Ramsay patient then we recommend that in the
first instance you contact the surgeon who carried out your
operation or the provider you paid for your surgery. However,
Ramsay also wants to ensure that we do as much as possible to
assist women who are affected by this issue and can offer fixed
priced packages for diagnostic testing, consultation with a surgeon
and then surgery if required. You can find your closest Ramsay
hospital on our website.
Patients should note that these concerns only relate to the PIP
implants from 2001 onwards and the MHRA alert does not apply to any
other type of implant.
